Students will be presented with a wide variety of speaking and listening activities. Follow-up pair and group-based tasks will allow students ample opportunity to develop their fluency.

学習成果

Students will show mastery of their aural skills by listening to various listening materials during class. Follow-up oral activities will include pair and group discussions, role plays, and short presentations.

Students will be graded on class participation and presentations.

In-class Listening and Communication activities: 50%
Discussion and Presentations: 40%
Homework and Preparation: 10%

Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Please speak actively in English. The aim of this course is to help you not only to speak in English but also to think in English and to enjoy doing so.

Orientation and self-introductions.	Explanation of the scope of the course and self-introductions.
Conversational Strategies.	V a r i o u s c o n v e r s a t i o n a l strategies will be explored so as to enable students to begin, maintain and end a conversation in a natural way.
Presentation Strategies.	The instructor will give a model p r e s e n t a t i o n . T h i s w i l l b e followed by a class discussion o n h o w t o d e v e l o p e f f e c t i v e presentation skills.
Country Study: England.	S t u d e n t s w i l l b e p r e s e n t e d with a variety of listening and speaking exercises that explore E n g l i s h h i s t o r y , c u l t u r e a n d modern day way of life.
Study Skills I	S t u d e n t s w i l l b e p r e s e n t e d with a variety of listening and speaking exercises that aim to encourage them to reflect upon how they study English. They will be encouraged to explore some new approaches to their language study.	T h e i n s t r u c t o r w i l l a s s i g n homework.
Study Skills II	Further exploration of English language study strategies.
Words in the News I	S t u d e n t s w i l l b e p r e s e n t e d with a variety of listening and speaking exercises based upon a topical news story.
Words in the News II	Students will be presented with listening and speaking materials related to a topical news story.
Words in the News III What's happening?	Students will be presented with listening and speaking materials related to a topical news story.
Not Everything you Know is True	A s e r i e s o f l i s t e n i n g a n d speaking activities designed to question some commonly held a s s u m p t i o n s a n d s t i m u l a t e discussion will be presented.	T h e i n s t r u c t o r w i l l a s s i g n homework.
Food and Nutrition I	Students will be presented with listening and speaking materials related to food, nutrition and international cuisine.
Food and Nutrition II	S t u d e n t s w i l l b e p r e s e n t e d w i t h f u r t h e r l i s t e n i n g a n d speaking materials related to food, nutrition and international cuisine.
The Senses I	S t u d e n t s w i l l b e p r e s e n t e d with a variety of listening and speaking exercises that explore how we use our various senses to perceive the world around us.
The Senses II	Students will listen to a variety of news bulletins and practice responding to questions related to a selection of topical issues.
Final presentations	Students will make their final presentations.	T h e i n s t r u c t o r w i l l n o t a s s i g n homework as the class will finish.
